About Alexandria Friends School:
For Homeschoolers
AFS welcomes homeschoolers on a part-time basis or as a safe transition to middle school, high school, and college. Our small classes and caring, nurturing faculty allow us to give the same kind of attention that has helped homeschoolers thrive around the kitchen table.
Some of our students come to us as full-time students after home school, while others take two or more classes with us in the course of their school day. All part-time students are welcome to participate in all our assemblies, field trips, and other activities. There is a $600 annual student account fee that includes books and other materials. Part-time home schoolers and their families are invited and encouraged to take part in all school-wide activities and groups.
Part-time students pay a $400 annual enrollment fee for 2 classes ($500 and $600 for 3 and 4) and tuition is pro-rated according to the number of classes ($3,719 per class for each Carnegie Credit: 5 classes daily for 36 weeks of school). Regular comments (grade reports) and official transcripts are provided for all classes taken. Our staff will also write recommendations as for any other student attending our school.
At the present time (2011-2012), we have two students who came to us for full-time instruction from a homeschooling environment. One of our now full-time students began with us as a part-time student.
As one of our previously homesschooled students put it, 'It's just like home schooling, but with other kids!'
