Will Stewart   Head of School, History and English  will@afriends.org

A historian and linguist, Will has been an educator since 1973. He has taught in colleges, universities, middle, and high schools in Ohio, New York, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and Germany. Will also spent some time in adult education, test preparation, and business management. He holds degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College and Case-Western Reserve University in Ohio, and has studied at Georgetown University; the University of Maryland, College Park; and in Germany and Austria. He has served as a trustee on the boards of religious and educational institutions.He spent eight years teaching history and English at the Thornton Friends School, Alexandria Campus. Will participates in the programs of the Friends Council on Education. He also serves on the Finance Committee of Friends Meeting School in Ijamsville, MD, and as Treasurer of the Washington Small Schools Association. He enjoys singing, hiking, biking, swimming, gardening, and reading.

Bryan Adams   Science, Computers, Math, Art   badams@afriends.org

Bryan earned his bachelor's degree from fellow Quaker institution Guilford College (NC). There he majored in biology with a minor in computers and information technology, and was a teacher's assistant in both zoology and chemistry. After working a couple years in the retail world, Bryan wanted to pursue further studies and enrolled in the Digital Media Arts program at Mercer County Community College (NJ). It was from this program that he got the inspiration to become an educator. Bryan has a passion for both the sciences and the arts, and hopes to inspire that same enthusiasm in his students.

Silvia Maza   Spanish, Math   smaza@afriends.org

Because I have done a lot of remediation work with college students, I have a good idea of where high school math is missing the boat. So saying, Silvia is prepared to correct the situation, accepting the challenge of working with teenagers. A mother of three grown children, Silvia brings a parent's perspective to the teaching staff. As a native of Cuba who has had many interesting language teaching (and learning) opportunities, Silvia is also prepared to teach our Spanish courses. I think both subjects can be a lot of fun, and will bring some fun into my classroom.

Marty Sullivan   Economics; Advanced Math and Spanish Substitute

Martin A. Sullivan studied economics at both Harvard (B.A., magna cum laude) and Northwestern (Ph.D). He has worked as an economist for the Treasury Department, for the Joint Committee on Taxation of U.S. Congress, and in the private sector. He has written over 250 articles for Tax Notes magazine where he is now a contibuting editor. He lives in Alexandria with his wife Mary Fitzpatrick and their two children, Laura and Joseph.

David C. Livingston   Studio Art

David received his B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi in Art and German, followed by an M.A.T. degree from Mississippi State University. He has served as instructor in painting, print, and design as well as computer graphics and programming. He is a juried member of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, has shown his work nationally, and has his work in many private collections. He currently serves as a commissioner on the Alexandria Commission for the Arts.
