Admissions Information

Admissions Dates and Application

While Alexandria Friends School accepts students on a rolling basis throughout the year, to guarantee a place for your 6th- or 7th-grade student next year (2012-13) a new student's completed application, deposit, and supporting documentation should be received by the school no later than MARCH 30, 2012. There is a non-refundable application fee of $80. (Late or mid-year applicants will be considered as space permits - please contact us for availability*).

Please Note: for the 2012-2013 school year we are accepting students in grades 6 and 7 only and will add grades each year thereafter through grade 12.

*We still have openings for 2011-2012 in grades 9-11. We may accept seniors on a case-by-case basis. Students seeking immediate placement should contact the admissions office at 703-461-7222 or via email.

Visitors are welcome! Please contact us to arrange a time to see the school or to find out whether we have openings.

Tuition

2012-2013 school year tuition is still just $19,395, plus a student materials account of $800 (if there is money remaining in the account at the end of the school year it will be refunded, or you may opt to donate the balance or a portion thereof). A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 will hold a place in the school and will be applied to the tuition payment (Seniors add $120 for graduation fees).

Tuition is due in full by July 30, 2012, or you must enroll in the TADS payment plan (payments begin in August 2012 and end in May, 2013). The Student Account is due in advance.

A $200 tuition discount is offered if the balances on tuition and student account are paid in full by June 30, 2012 (for the 2012-13 school year). Those enrolling during the school year may also qualify for a discount - please ask!

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, tuition will be guaranteed not to rise as long as your child is continuously enrolled in the school. Please contact us for terms and conditions.

Diversity

Alexandria Friends School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, gender, sexual or gender identity, socio-economic status, or creed to all the rights and privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the School. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, gender, socio-economic status, age, or sexual/gender identity in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship programs, staff hiring, or other School-administered programs.

Financial Aid

Alexandria Friends School is committed to making our unique approach to education available to everyone. We will work with you and your budget to find the level of payment appropriate to your family's circumstances*. To get started, just click through to the TADS system and follow the on-line instructions. Please let the admissions office know if you need further assistance. ALL students seeking aid must apply anew each year of enrollment. The deadline to apply for aid for the 2011-2012 school year is April 30, 2012. Awards may be made after the deadline if funds become available.

* A guide to Financial Aid awards at AFS: Family income and household expenses are evaluated by TADS for the AFS Financial Aid Committee. The TADS financial aid application process also allows for families to note any special circumstances they may wish to have considered. Families with household incomes below $50,000 will likely qualify for substantial financial aid. Families with a household income below $100,000 may qualify for significant financial aid, depending on the number of family members, expenses, amount of home equity, and other factors. Families with incomes between $100,000 and $120,000 may qualify for some financial aid, again depending on those factors listed above.
