Deborah Haines, Clerk (Chair) (F)
Alumni Parent, Alexandria Friends Meeting

Deborah Haines teaches and writes about Quaker history, beliefs and practice.  She has a doctorate in history from the University of Chicago, and is a member of the Alexandria Friends Meeting.  She serves on the Boards of the William Penn House in Washington D.C., the Quaker Information Center in Philadelphia, and the national Friends General Conference.

 
 

Benjamin Fiore-Walker, Finance Clerk (Treasurer) (F)

Alexandria Friends Meeting

Ben Fiore-Walker is a neuropsychologist who studies the interaction of epilepsy and autism as it relates to the brain mechanisms behind social and environmental exploration behavior deficits. In his position in the Dean of Medical Education’s office, Dr. Walker teaches neuroscience and medical education classes to undergraduate, graduate and medical students. He received his Ph.D. in Psychobiology from the University of Virginia. Ben attended Quaker schools in suburban Philadelphia and currently attends Alexandria Friends Meeting. An avid cyclist, he lives with his family in Alexandria.

 
 

Angela Colby-Rinker, Recording Clerk (Secretary)
Alumna

A student of international relations, Angela received her BA and MA from Huron University in London. She has also been trained in conflict resolution in Northern Ireland and Amman, Jordan. Angela is from Alexandria, Virginia, and an alumna of our predecessor institution, Thornton Friends School, Virginia Campus. Prior to her current positions with the American Cancer Society International and Neighbors International, Angela interned for Search for Common Ground in Washington, DC, and the United Nations Environment and Development in London. She has a special interest in fundraising for worthy causes, especially for education and peace initiatives.

 
   

 

 
 

Thomas Linney, Trustee
Alumni Parent

Dr. Linney has spent much of his career in various positions on the boundary between academic and government organizations. He has also held professional positions in the U. S. Department of Education, where he served as senior policy analyst for the Office of Educational Research and Improvement. He has held faculty and administrative positions at Claremont Graduate School , the six Claremont Colleges in California and the George Washington University. He has two adopted children who have attended public and private schools in Virginia and Maryland. As a parent he has served in a variety of volunteer positions including the ESL Committee of Fairfax County Public Schools, the search committee for Head of School at Browne Academy in Alexandria, and as a Board Member of the Parents Association at Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, Virginia.

 
 

Matt Willmott, Trustee
Faculty Alumnus

Matt spent four years working in Quaker Schools, including Sandy Spring Friends, Thornton Friends, and Alexandria Friends. He currently teaches English and math at a private high school in Northern Virginia while he pursues a Master’s degree in Writing at Johns Hopkins. He writes fiction and dabbles in video production and graphic novel illustration.

 
 

William R. Stewart, President and Head of School, ex officio

A historian and linguist, Will has been an educator since 1973. He has taught in colleges, universities, middle, and high schools in Ohio, New York, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and Germany. Will also spent some time in adult education, test preparation, and business management. He holds degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College and Case-Western Reserve University in Ohio, and has studied at Georgetown University, the University of Maryland, College Park, and in Germany and Austria. He has served as a trustee on the boards of religious and educational institutions. Most recently he spent eight years teaching history and English at the Thornton Friends School, Alexandria Campus. He enjoys singing, hiking, biking, swimming, gardening, and reading.
